Small town day dream turned into dream job.

Native to Tennessee, I have lived in several areas of middle Tennessee with the Murfreesboro area being home for the last 25+ years. I knew as a young teen in high school that I wanted to run my own private practice one day. After struggling through all schools with undiagnosed ADHD, it was confirmed for me even more that I had gifts that could help others. Being a young adult more interested in "fun" things, I change directions by building a photography career that lasted a little over 10 yrs. Deciding it was time for a "real" job, I took on the challenging task of beginning graduate school a decade later. The education, life experiences, career opportunities, learning curves and lots of self-reflection that followed .... have led me to a place in my career that truly brings me joy, peace and community. To top it off, I get to take my dog to work!

Maggie is a rescue that stole my heart at 7 months old and has yet to give it back! I knew she was a good candidate for a therapy pup when I recognized how in touch with human emotions she could be. After experimental training to see if the skills were trainable, Maggie has taken on a whole new level of lovable personality to be there for our clients. She completed countless hours of 1 on 1 therapy through multiple approaches.

We would love to meet you and share our therapy space with you!

Professional Insights
Licensed Mental Health Provider
Education
Masters of Ed; Clinical Mental Health Psychology
Bachelor of Science in Psychology
I obtained by Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a Child Development Focus at Middle Tennessee State University. I utilized those skills through years of team building and management. Graduate school was completed at University of Tennessee Martin with a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Services. The TN licensure process then requires 3 to 5 years of post-graduate training, supervision and clinical practice. Continued education requirements are an active and strictly enforced aspect of maintaining active licensure.
Experience
Extensive, Diverse Experience
With over 15 years of practice in child and family therapy, I have learned that most individuals just need a place to speak and be heard. Those places can be any where; at school, at home, at therapy, at a park! The experience gained from working in a range of environments allows me tailor treatment to each client's unique needs. School-based therapy, in-home therapy, virtual platforms, school meetings, legal proceedings, community mental health agency, solo and group private practice are all included in the environments I've served.
Approach
Well Rounded Approach
My first approach with all new clients and families is meeting them where they are at. Fully understanding and relating to where the client begins in their therapy journey is crucial to knowing how far they have come. This approach also leads to trusting rapport building. I often tell clients there is never 1 perfect "answer" or "solution" but the combination of several, small adjustments that add up to a huge relief feeling. Self-awareness and focusing on controllable aspects of the situation have led many clients to a more balanced life style.
